Jeremy Keppelmann
Jeremy Keppelmann is 14 years old. A native of College Station, Texas he moved to Reno at the age of one. He is on the upper school honor council at Sage Ridge. He lives with his musical siblings Jakob (11 – piano and violin), Emilee (6 – harp and piano), and his parents Jackie and Ed.
Jeremy started piano at age 5. At the age of 7, he saw his first harp at a Bartley Ranch concert performed by Beverly Colgan and Joe Venuto. It was a great beginning and Beverly introduced Jeremy to Catherine Michel, who was the principal harpist of the Paris Opera. Although Jeremy could not even read music when he first traveled to France, Jeremy’s impressive musicality allowed him to progress quickly and he has returned many times since to study with her.
In 2002, at the age of 10, Jeremy competed in the Junior division of the Lily Laskine International Harp Competition in Deauville France. While the distinguished Jury of seven did not send Jeremy to the final round that year, he placed 10th and was given a special award as the most promising future talent. When he returned to the competition in 2005, he made the final round where he played the Concerto in C Major by Haydn with a string quartet and finished third. This established Jeremy as one of the world’s finest harpists under the age of 16.
In February of 2005, Jeremy’s Spaghetti Rag won an episode of the nationally aired PAX TV (now I TV) show America’s Most Talented Kids. In 2005, Jeremy was featured in the Focus on Youth portion of the World Harp Congress in Dublin Ireland.
Until he is 16, Jeremy is ineligible to compete in the USA international harp competition which is held once every three years in Bloomington, Indiana.
At the 2004 competition, Jeremy was one of four young harpists to perform in a special Stars of Tomorrow concert. He will play again at the 2007 event. In 2006, he presented two of his own compositions (Phantom Phantasy and The Marionettes) at the American Harp society’s national meeting in San Francisco.
In celebration of Jeremy’s debut and thanks to Tanglewood Productions, Jeremy will present his first CD. The two-volume-set Harp Solos and Concertos sells for $25 and includes both individual and ensemble work with siblings Ruth Lenz and Johnny Lenz and a Triptic dance with both his siblings. For details, write to edkeppelmann@yahoo.com.
Jeremy studies harp with Linda Rollo of Saratoga California and piano with Rachel Ing of Reno.
Besides classical music, Jeremy also loves acting and the visual arts. In May of 2006, he played the lead of Edward Middleton in the Sage Ridge Musical production of the Drunkard. In May of 2007, he will have a lead role in A Midsummer Nights Dream. He loves singing, geometry, logic, history, and science. To keep fit for the demanding music he plays, Jeremy is an avid swimmer. He was just recently promoted to the Lakeridge Silver Team.
