Reno Phil’s Spirit of the Season Concert Begins the Holiday Season

(RENO, Nev.) For the Spirit of the Season concert, out-going music director Barry Jekowsky it putting his final touches on a musical gift to the community. Mr. Jekowsky is bringing his favorite parts of the holiday show back for an exciting performance, and he has a large gift bag to choose from. The concert has included ice skaters, Chinese acrobats, ballroom dancers, slot machine concertos, aerial silk artists, and magicians.
The local favorite holiday concert will bring back nationally acclaimed recording artist, Toni Tennille, after a year’s hiatus. The performance will be held Saturday evening, December 1st at 7:00 pm and Sunday matinee December 2nd at 2:00 pm at the Grand Theatre inside the Grand Sierra Resort. The concert is sponsored by the Marguerite Wattis Petersen Foundation, IGT, Reno Gazette-Journal, and Reno Philharmonic Endowment Trust.
Toni Tennille performed with the orchestra for two sold out shows in 2004 and 2005. In 2006 and 2007, Ms. Tennille spent the year in production a new Captain & Tennille Christmas CD project entitled, "The Secret of Christmas" - due for release for Christmas, 2007. Known for her rich voice, sensual melodies, powerful stage presence and accessible personality, Toni Tennille’s career is as versatile as it is successful. She co-starred with Daryl Dragon on the television series "The Captain & Tennille Variety Show" and hosted a talk show. Since 1984, Ms. Tennille has been performing with top symphony orchestras, including the Reno Chamber Orchestra in spring of 2003 and has recorded five albums of jazz standards. In 1998 and 1999, Toni starred in the First National Tour of the Broadway musical VICTOR/VICTORIA. In the lead role, reviewers said of her performance, “Contralto Toni Tennille makes “Victor/Victoria” her own.”... “Tennille glitters, whether she’s in a tux or in sequins.”... “Toni Tennille is a strong lead with a smoldering, velvety voice.”
