The Discover Music Program is comprised of musical ensembles of two to five musicians, who travel to selected Washoe County and regional elementary schools to perform child-friendly music programs. These are designed to give elementary school children a close-up look at symphonic musicians, music and instruments through performances, demos and participatory activities.

Discover Music brings knowledge and expertise to local schools, through entertainment and education. By exposing them to fun and quality music, a child may develop an appreciation of music, and become motivated to play an instrument.

The program currently employs a brass quintet, a percussion trio and a harp-vibraphone duo. In the 2007-2008 school year, the Discover Music ensembles performed in 28 schools, as well as the Washoe County Senior Services Center, thereby reaching more than 15,000 children and seniors. In addition to Washoe County School District, we were able to accommodate Carson City, Truckee, Fernley, Gardnerville, and Yerington. These are schools with limited access to live performances, and our groups were received with great enthusiasm.
